Drive one of the most popular and exclusive supercars of the Lamborghini range when you hire a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Spyder. An entry level Lamborghini, the rear-wheel drive Gallardo Spyder is an agile open-top sports car with manual transmission, allowing for an incredibly involved high performance driving experience.
The LP stands for Longitudinale/Posteriore, referring to its longitudinal mid-engine layout, the 550 to the power output in bhp and the 2 to its rear wheel drive. Unsurprisingly, this 2-door convertible Gallardo is extremely fast.
The only 2-wheel drive to be released by Lamborghini, the 5.2L V10 Gallardo LP550-2 weighs some 318 km/h. Handling is superb and the acceleration is awesome; not just fast but emotional, and the brakes have incredible stopping power. It produces 530 bhp and the ride is firm and stable, thanks to redeveloped ESP stability control and retuned dampers to suit the rear-wheel drive setup.
The Gallardo Spider looks fabulous with the folding roof up or down, and its angular lines and iconic Lamborghini wedge shape ensure a high degree of menacing road presence. This is a car that stands out in a crowd, delivering a stunning open-air driving experience to those lucky enough to get behind the wheel.
The pared down steering wheel is superb and the rest of the cabin is finished to perfection, with a hand-stitched leather dashboard and ergonomic controls. The soft-top roof retracts in just 20 seconds and you’ll find Sat Nav, bluetooth, a backup camera and lap timers among the many technological gadgets to entertain you in the cabin.

The LP550-2 Spyder is not just an open-top Gallardo, it is a rear-wheel drive supercar and a purists dream. Lamborghini haven’t built a rear-wheel drive supercar since 1993, and this model marks a return to true Lamborghini form. Built at the request of test driver Valentino Balboni, the rear-wheel drive LP550-2 Valentino Balboni edition proved so popular, it was released as the LP550-2 soon after, and with a powerful V10 engine and electronic stability control (ESP), the drive is incredible.
