Land Rover Discovery Review

By Mark Aria - Lifestyle Adventurist and Adrenaline Junkie

Car Summary

Hire a Land Rover Discovery and enjoy the thrill of driving a luxury 4x4 that’s as comfortable cruising on-road as it is tackling extreme terrain off-road. A genuine 7-seater vehicle, the Land Rover Discovery is one of the most practical and prestigious 4WD MPVs on the road.

Drive anywhere in comfort with a Land Rover Discovery. Sturdy, strong and incredibly agile, the Land Rover Discovery can take on any challenge. A 3.0 L diesel engine achieves 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds and hits a top speed of 180 km/h. It produces 256 bhp and is paired with an impressive 8-speed automatic transmission. It is extremely capable off-road, with huge ground clearance, advanced air suspension and Land Rover’s ‘Terrain Response’ system that automatically adjusts throttle response, ride height and stability control in accordance with the terrain. The cabin manages to remain smooth and quiet at all times and the driving position is superb, giving an unrivalled view of the road ahead.

Ruggedly handsome and immensely powerful, the Land Rover Discovery has a commanding road presence. The cabin is suitably luxurious, with plenty of space and a huge boot, as well Bluetooth phone connectivity, DAB, climate control and a brilliant multimedia touch screen infotainment system. The Land Rover Discovery is an exceptional luxury car with plenty of character, practicality and refinement, and whether you are seeking a 7-seater family car, an extreme off-roader or an executive city car, the Land Rover Discovery certainly fits the bill.

“The Disco’s height means there’s a bit of body lean, but nowhere near as much as you might expect, while the ride is up there with many executive cars.”

The Land Rover Discovery HSE strikes a rare chord, with its stately composure, smooth stream of power and gifted agility despite its enormous size. The interior is beautifully furnished in an entirely satisfying balance of functionality and luxury. The seating is comfortable and combined with the almost panoramic windows, this SUV really does makes you feel like you are ‘king of the road’. Yet also entirely utilitarian standard features include 19 inch alloy wheels, sharp Xenon headlamps, ebony leather seats, power folding mirrors, an eight-speed automatic transmission gearbox, an intelligent stop and start system that includes a hill start assist for extra oomph, electronic air suspension, front and rear parking aids and an electric brake. All this, without even going into the additional features proves to deliver one highly satisfying drive.

“Luxurious Land Rover Discovery is fantastic all-rounder that's big, bold and brilliant to drive on and off-road”

This is the ultimate all-rounder and one of the leading luxury 4x4 SUVs on the market. Combining a relaxing driving experience with a powerful diesel engine and a luxurious cabin, the Land Rover Discovery is an executive seven-seater. It performs better off-road than any other SUV available, with a single 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbodiesel engine that makes 0-100 km/h in just 8.8 seconds. An eight-speed automatic transmission helps the car’s on-road performance for a refined drive in city traffic, whilst off-road its performance rises to a whole new level. The raised seating position gives an excellent view of the road, and the dashboard is finished with luxurious leather, wood and soft-touch plastics, and a range of technology includes a dual-view centre console screen. Passenger space is generous, with plenty of headroom and storage, and the large sunroof gives an excellent airy feel in the cabin.

With a few mild upgrades, the 2014 Land Rover Discovery is the perfect vehicle for our wet winter”

A ruggedly handsome machine that is perfect for the great British winter, the Land Rover Discovery HSE has brilliant off-road capabilities. It includes a 3.0L turbo-diesel engine, a range of Land Rover safety features and a ‘wade-sensor’ that uses the satnav screen to display the depth of water you have driven into. Inside the cabin the driver has a commanding driving position and there is plenty of room for seven adults. Even with a heavy load, the Land Rover Discovery never feels underpowered, and the harmony between the 8-speed automatic transmission and the turbo-diesel engine helps this large machine to make 0-100 km/h in an impressive 8.8 seconds.
