BMW i8 Review
Car Summary
The revolutionary BMW i8 is a sports car with the fuel consumption and emissions of a compact car. Born out of BMW’s Project i, which aimed to reinvent urban driving, the plug-in Hybrid BMW i8 is fitted with a perfectly synchronised electric motor and combustion engine, and utilises BMW EfficientDynamics technology to challenge the perceived contradiction between efficiency and dynamics.
Designed to look like a powerful sports car, the BMW i8 sits wide and low on the road, displays strong contours and features optimised aerodynamics. It includes the striking ‘black belt’ familiar to all BMW i models and embraces BMW dynamic stream-flow design.
The drive is perfectly balanced with a front-rear split of 50/50 and a particularly low centre of gravity. When its full power is unleashed on the open road, the 4-wheel drive reaches a top speed of 249 km/h, whilst the electric engine is ideal for urban driving with a top speed of 120 km/h.
LED headlights contribute to the sporty feel of the i8 and the impressive scissor doors add plenty of character. The sporting theme continues through the cabin, and a carefully planned layout and use of ground breaking lightweight carbon fibre materials ensure maximum comfort. A digital 3D Control Display and ConnectedDrive allows you remain connected and informed at all times, and BMW’s Navigation System Professional is included as standard and Driver Assistant is available.
BMW have successfully proven that sustainability and extreme driving pleasure are compatible, so take a drive into the future when you hire a BMW i8.
Reviews“The BMW i8 is a huge car for the supercar sector. It has the looks and performance but its economy and emissions set entirely new benchmarks”
With stunning looks, low running costs and impressive performance, the BMW i8 is one of the most significant cars on the road. Setting the benchmark for fuel efficiency whilst demonstrating strong performance, this car is the future. The combination of the 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine and linked 129 bhp electric motor enables the BMW i8 to produce 357 bhp and 570 Nm of torque. This means the i8 rockets from 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 249 km/h. It has the performance of a supercar and the running costs of a mini.
“This hybrid BMW looks amazing, is a great investment and represents a genuinely different and almost entirely successful way of building a fast, desirable car.”
The BMW i8 combines the best parts of a sports car with the running costs of a compact. BMW’s advanced hybrid technology means that the car can find the most efficient balance between petrol and electric power. The rear wheels are powered by a small 1.5 litre petrol engine, yet this is turbocharged to produce 228 bhp and combined with a 129 bhp electric motor to power the front wheels, giving the BMW i8 the same power as a Porsche 911.
