Mercedes C Class Review

By Eric Palmer - Travel Writer and Petrol Head

Car Summary

Rent a Mercedes C Class Saloon for an outstanding drive in one of Mercedes’ most advanced luxury cars. Combining stunning good looks, incredible efficiency and innovative technology, the Mercedes C Class Saloon pushes the executive sedan concept to an entirely new level.

The Mercedes C Class has a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine that is capable of making 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and 204 bhp, and is mated to a brilliant 7G-Tronic Plus 7-speed automatic transmission. Its lightweight construction gives a weight saving of almost 100 kg, and along with the advanced engine and innovative design, helps the C Class to achieve an impressive 65.7 mpg combined. A raft of high-end technology is included to aid your driving, including Dynamic Select, with Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport+ and Individual driving modes, a reversing camera and Speedtronic Cruise Control, while LED High Performance Headlights ensure excellent visibility, low energy consumption and a long operating life. Agility control comfort suspension keeps the ride smooth and steering is precise and responsive thanks to Mercedes’ Direct Steer speed sensitive steering.

The body of the Mercedes C-Class is longer and wider than previous models, leaving a strong and powerful presence on the road. The aerodynamic body-styling is aggressive and muscular, with large front air intakes and a two-louvre radiator grille. To match its dynamic exterior, the interior is fitted with black ARTICO leather and high-gloss black trim, creating a stylish ambience in the cabin. The four-way electro-pneumatic seats provide brilliant comfort and support, whilst an advanced Audio system, 7” colour display and Garmin Map Pilot navigation system keep you entertained and in touch wherever you are on the road. You’ll also find a beautiful 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a leather touchpad control panel and plenty of storage space for all your luggage needs.

From body to chassis to powertrain to interior, it’s a sign of things to come from Mercedes.”

The Mercedes C Class’ ‘Modular Rear-drive Architecture’ allows a weight saving of about 100 kg, thanks to the under-body being constructed from approximately 50% aluminium. The C-Class offers a range of executive sedan models, with engines including the 168 bhp four-cylinder turbo-diesel C220 and the 201 bhp C250. There is also a 181 bhp 2.0L turbo petrol engine in the C200, with a six-speed manual transmission as standard or a 7-speed 7G-Tronic Plus automatic. The five-link rear suspension and new multi-link front axle suspension offer superb stability and grip on the road, whilst ride and handling are well composed. This compact executive saloon is built to the highest quality using the finest materials available, for an executive driving experience in a top-class sedan.

“Mercedes decides the best way to take on the 3-Series is with an S-Class mini-me. Mercedes is right”

The C-Class aims to match BMW’s 3-Series and the latest models offer great comfort, refinement and safety in a stylishly elegant luxury compact sedan. The engines are quiet and economic, the steering is precise and the car feels light on its feet thanks to its 100 kg weight reduction. The ride is supple, and it is a brilliant cruiser, with a raft of driver-assist systems including ultrasound, radar and stereo camera to actively monitor the road so that you can focus on the driving. The exterior and interior are dashing and the quality of the cabin is superb. The seats are great, there is plenty of space, and there are plenty of technological gadgets to keep you informed and entertained.
