The Mercedes SLK has a powerful 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine that makes 416 bhp and 540 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, pushing 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The seven-speed automatic gearbox can be operated in a trio of modes, with Comfort for lazier gear changes and a serene driving experience, Sport to sharpen things up and Manual, which allows the driver to change gear via the paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. But the best thing is the noise and the ‘distinctive roar which at times sounds quite ludicrously loud. It really makes you grin, and is very much what this car is all about’

With a short behind and long nose, the Mercedes SLK has a classic roadster look. The AMG body styling gives contributes a more aggressive stance and the 5.5L V8 engine plays an outstanding AMG soundtrack through quad exhausts. The drive is refined with the top up, and the folding hardtop is quick to operate. The interior is comfortable and finished to the highest quality, and while it is not cheap, it is worth it as the best SLK on sale.
