Audi SQ5 Review

By Mark Aria - Lifestyle Adventurist and Adrenaline Junkie

Car Summary

Combining SUV practically with coupe athleticism, the Audi SQ5 is a unique compact-crossover SUV with incredible handling, outstanding performance and exquisite luxury. Hire an Audi SQ5 and enjoy the versatility of a sporty 4x4 for everyday driving.

The Audi SQ5 comes with a 3.0L TDI engine with piezo injectors to ensure smooth and efficient combustion, a reduction of noise and a lowering of emissions. Fitted with Audi’s most powerful six-cylinder engine yet, the Audi SQ5’s engine produces 309 bhp and has a combined emissions figure of 41.5mpg, aided by an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, which further reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by allowing exceptionally fast, direct and efficient gear changes.

There is an additional range of fuel efficiency systems, including Recuperation, which converts kinetic energy from braking into useful electrical energy for a fuel saving of up to 3% and automatic start/stop, which switches the engine off when the vehicle comes to a standstill at traffic lights or in heavy traffic. This powerful crossover SUV is equipped with Audi’s advanced quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system, which not only helps to deliver better acceleration and give an excellent hold on the road, but is able to monitor, predict and adjust to the road conditions and driving style.

Aerodynamics play a role in the SQ5’s efficiency savings, with the smooth contours and sharp lines allowing for the easier movement of air around the vehicle and ensuring a more dynamic drive. 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, Xenon headlights and LED lights and twin-tail exhaust pipes confirm that this sporty 4WD means business, whilst in the cabin the attention to detail is second to none. Electrically-adjustable front seats covered in Fine Nappa leather and a 3-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel allow for a fantastic driving experience, whilst Audi Music Interface (AMI) and Audi Connect keep you entertained and informed wherever you travel.

Combining 4x4 capabilities with coupe like comfort and luxury, the Audi SQ5 takes all terrain adventures to a whole new level.

“The Audi SQ5 is the world's fastest diesel SUV…it not only outpaces other performance-oriented (and much more expensive) diesel 4x4s – such as the BMW X6 M50d and Porsche Cayenne V8 diesel – but is quicker even than a Porsche Cayman.”

The incredible speed is thanks to the SQ5’s bi-turbo engine that produces 309 bhp and has 479 lb ft of torque available between 1450 rpm and 2800 rpm. Unlike other powerful diesels, the SQ5 gives an incredibly refined drive, and traction and handling are superb. It feels more like a sporty hatchback than an SUV when cornering, and boasts impressive efficiency figures, making 41.5 mpg. The cabin is luxuriously comfortable, with plenty of space for four adults to travel in total comfort, a large boot space to contain all your luggage and three-zone climate control to maintain an ideal temperature no matter what the weather.

“The 309bhp Audi SQ5 is the first ever diesel-powered S model, and it has finally arrived on British roads”

The SQ5 is a fantastic car that is fast, refined and comfortable, with incredible grip and handling. This is a super-SUV with few rivals on the road. The power comes from a 3.0L twin-turbo diesel engine that pushes the SQ5 from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox gives incredibly smooth gear shifts, as well as a large surge of torque and impressive throttle response. It builds speed very quickly, but never feels anything other than calm and controlled on the road. The ride is comfortable too, making this an ideal long-distance vehicle.
