Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Review
Car Summary
The Porsche 911 has a reputation as an iconic sports car, and the latest Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet brings this classic car right up to date. With a futuristic design, remarkable engines and a range of fuel saving technologies, hiring a Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet puts you behind the wheel of a powerful and fuel-efficient luxury car with plenty of style.
The 3.4L 6 cylinder boxer engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus produces 350 bhp at 7400 rpm and a maximum torque of 390 Nm at 5600 rpm. It makes 0-100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds, hits a top speed of 286 km/h and has a combined fuel consumption of 9.2l/100 km.
It is mated to a 7-speed manual transmission that combines sporty performance with excellent efficiencies and there is a raft of advanced technological features including Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) for dynamic performance and an automatic start/stop function that reserves energy by switching the engine off when the vehicle comes to a standstill. A thermal management system regulates the engine temperature and the gearbox by manipulating the heat flow and enabling reduced fuel consumption, while electromechanical power steering increases efficiency by only using energy when actually needed. The independent front and rear axle suspension ensures superb stability, superior handling and an incredibly comfortable ride.
The interior of the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is stunning, with Porsche’s form follows function principles and a focus primarily on the driver experience. The gear lever and steering wheel are easy to reach, and the controls are logically placed and simple to operate. The highest quality materials are incorporated throughout the cabin, with a leather sports steering wheel and leather sports seats, as well as dual-zone climate control for optimum comfort.
The advanced Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system includes sat-nav and a high-res 7” colour screen, as well as audio and communication functions. The innovative fabric hood is both lightweight yet robust, can open in just 13 seconds at a speed of 49 km/h and provides excellent insulation from sounds and the elements when up. Combining tradition with innovation, the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is one of the smartest open top sports cars on the road.
Reviews“The Porsche 911 Cabriolet is one of the best high-performance cabriolets in the world, and certainly the easiest to live with day to day.”
The Porsche 911 Cabriolet is incredibly fast, immensely capable and has excellent grip on the road. Steering is precise and the drive is dynamic and agile. The roof is designed to reduce wind noise, whilst a windbreak successfully keeps out drafts when the roof is down. The seat and steering wheel are adjustable, comfortable and supportive and the dashboard is well laid out for a great driving experience. It is one of the most practical high performance convertibles on the road, with storage space in the front boot and rear seats suitable for luggage or children.
“The open-top Porsche 911 Cabriolet adds convertible thrills to the traditional rear-engined formula”
The Porsche 911 Cabriolet adds open-air thrills to the 911 driving experience. It has the same profile as the coupé with the hood up, and is almost as agile as the coupé on the road. The roof takes just 13 seconds to open and can be activated at speeds of up to 56 km/h, and with the roof closed it does a good job of keeping out road noise. The chassis is rigid and offers excellent handling, whilst the electric steering is well weighted and particularly sharp. For a convertible, the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a surprisingly practical sports car, with a 135L boot and rear seats ideal for small children or additional luggage space.
