Porsche 911 Turbo Review

By Mark Aria - Lifestyle Adventurist and Adrenaline Junkie

Car Summary

Bringing racetrack technology into everyday use, the iconic Porsche 911 has undergone a near complete makeover to offer greater engine power, higher performance and even more luxury. With a top Speed 318 km/h (197 mph) and 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds, renting a Porsche 911 Turbo rewards drivers with an unbeatable open-top driving experience in one of the world’s most practical yet advanced convertible supercars.

A 3.8-litre boxer twin-turbo engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG), producing 560 bhp, lies at the heart of the 911 Turbo. Power is transmitted to the road via the advanced Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive systems, and rear-axle steering is able to adapt to different driving styles and conditions for enhanced stability and agility. Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) ensures increased solidity, whilst Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) enhance performance and increases fuel efficiency.

There is a range of driver assist programmes, including a speed limit indicator, adaptive cruise control and a reverse parking camera. LED headlights form part of the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) to provide superb visibility, whilst the form follows function design, with low overhangs and a 100 mm longer wheelbase, improves stability and gives the Porsche 911 S Turbo a strong sense of power and athleticism. The lightweight fabric hood retains the distinctive 911 curves and lines, and with an electronically powered wind deflector, a rigid chassis and an automatic rollover protection system, the Porsche 911 Turbo sets new standards in Porsche open top driving.

The driver-focussed cabin combines practical safety measures with high-end luxury, with fully electric sports seats, an adjustable steering column, dual zone climate control and swathes of luxurious Alcantara leather. The Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) includes a navigation system and a high-resolution 7” touchscreen, whilst a wonderful BOSE Surround Sound System is perfectly tuned to the interior acoustics, allowing you to enjoy incredible sound with the roof up or down.

The hood electronically opens or closes in just 13 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and whether you are planning to cruise with the top down or hit the road running, a Porsche 911 S Turbo Cabriolet adds thrills to your journey.

The long-running Porsche 911 sports car is faster and more comfortable than ever”

No other sports car matches the heritage of the Porsche 911, and the latest Turbo S is the most technically accomplished yet. With thrilling sports car performance, more powerful engines and an improved chassis, the Turbo S is not only faster, but safer too. It has a unique seven-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel steering and a new direct-injection, flat-six engine. The low-slung driving position is particularly comfortable, and the cabin is luxuriously finished with high quality materials and an advanced touch-screen infotainment system. The drive is incredible, with endless amounts of power, torque vectoring and the four-wheel drive system giving superb traction and incredible stopping power from the PDK braking system.

It’s more than twice as powerful as the original Porsche 911 Turbo”

The latest 911 Turbo has four-wheel steering and a four-wheel drive system, with adaptive aerodynamics that enhance performance. The Turbo S has a twin-turbo 3.8L flat-six engine that produces 552 bhp and up to 552 lb ft of torque. It hits 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and can make a lap of the Nürburgring  in an impressive 7 min 27 seconds. The Turbo S is both a hardcore road-racer and a powerful GT, with immense power, excellent rigidity and impeccable steering. The Turbo S version of the iconic 911 is a more usable, drivable and faster open-top cabriolet.
