Germany’s Festivals: All About the Beer, Beer and More Beer

Eric Palmer - Travel Writer and Petrol Head Luxury Car Rental Munich

Despite Germany’s serious side there is just a strong undercurrent that loves a good time and plenty of beer. Munich’s festivals have international repute for offering world class beer, sensational music, and just being heaps and heaps of fun. Rent a Lamborghini in Munich to enjoy the party in a sensational ride.

Top of the list, is and always has been, Oktoberfest. The all time German festival of beer, good music, folk dance, more beer, raves and well, more beer. The locals come dressed in their cultural costumes of floral or plaid lederhosen topped with feathered hats. Revel in the raucous of singing along to songs of all sorts, eating a hearty fare of bavarian food and clanging beer mugs whilst dancing on tables. Ahhh, this is Oktoberfest, at its best! Rent the Lamborghini Aventador, the car with all the vroom and life to meet the vibrant atmosphere.

In the smooth and ultra conspicuous design lines of the Lamborghini Huracán, make sure to attend Maibaumaufstellen, a Bavarian festival held annually on the 1st of May. Prepare to observe as strange things start to happen. Men wearing Lederhosen and women dressed in Dirndl, meet in the central square carrying long poles. They combine these poles to form a long white-blue pole, called a Maibaum (meaning may tree, known in English as a maypole) that is erected in the square.

For the occasion an oompah band is typically playing with booths selling cultural food and drinks. The villages compete as to who has the tallest and the straightest pole, often attempting to steal each others poles, because if successful, they have to be bought back, most typically with beer. On the day, many traditions take place around the Maibaum, most popular is the dance of the single men and women, who court each other to the sound of music.

In the summer time hire the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder to attend the summer solstice festival of Tollwood, an alternative festival that takes place in the Olympic Park. The festival combines  ethnic food, craft and souvenir shops, concerts and theater performances. A popular event amongst the locals, it’s not to be missed.
