A landmark icon of Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Towers are one of the first things that you notice about the city as you drive in aboard the BMW Z4 Roadster rental. Resembling two silver rockets, that appear to be pinched from Gotham city, the Petronas Towers have become a symbol of the meteoric rise of a city that has developed from humble origins as poor farmers and fisherman catapulting into the 21st century as a futuristic metropolis. Tours of the towers are available, the 45 minute guided tour includes a Skybridge connection on the 41st floor and access to views on the observation deck on the 86th floor, where if you have the stomach for it, you will be standing 370 meters high. With tickets very popular, you are best off purchasing yours in advance online, or otherwise it might be wise to get there early.
For your visit to Kuala Lumpur drive the car that connotes the same degree of futuristic aspiration as the towers by driving the BMW Z4 Roadster hire. The ergonomically functional cabin is intelligently crafted to the highest standard of comfort and quality. A wealth of innovative service have been installed using BMW’s Connected Drive system, which ensures that both driver and passenger alike will enjoy the array of premium comfort features available. The Z4 uses an sDrive35is which easily packs a satisfying punch with the TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine with which it has been paired. Capable of producing 450 Nm of torque and 340 bhp of power, the BMW Z4 is able to hit 100 km/h from 0 in an impressive 4.8 seconds.
For a bit of background on the Petronas Towers, the shimmering stainless steel towers were completed in 1998 by the Argentinian architect Cesar Pelli and were intended to be the headquarters of the national oil and gas company - “Petronas”. Together at 88 storeys high and 452 meters long they represent the tallest set of twin towers in the world. Interestingly, the floor plan is shaped into an eight sided star, an indication of the arabesque influence in Malaysia. At each of the tower’s five tiers the Islamic influence continues to be evident, each of the five pillars represents a pillar of belief in Islam. Calling to mind the Star of Islam mosque, they look highly impressive when lit up at night.
