Convertible Car Rental in Hamburg

Germany’s Gateway to the World

Eric Palmer - Travel Writer and Petrol Head

A city famous for its maritime heritage, Hamburg for centuries was considered to be Germany’s gateway to the world. Importing not just trade, but ideas that were eventually to filter through into Germany, the city gradually took on the legendary name as the “Free and Hanseatic State of Hamburg”.

However its wealth as a port city has continued to show its influence even until today, where under the sway of its affluence, its many dwellers patronise the arts and culture that is so prolific in the city. Rent a convertible in Hamburg and with tickets to a show and reservations made for a meal, engage in any one of the city’s epicurean delights.

See the city’s many decorated buildings and monuments aboard the Audi R8 Spyder, a formidable cabriolet with breathtaking performance, the Audi R8 Spyder boasts speeds of 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. As a first port of destination you may want to stop by the Mahnmal St-Nikolai, an incredibly grand church, it was actually the world’s tallest building from 1874 to 1876, and continues to this today to set the character of Hamburg's skyline. Considerably ruined in the aftermath of World War Two, it was reconstructed into its current form and in the process renamed, Mahnmal St-Nikolai.

After exploring the history that is beautifully laid out in its halls on the ground floor guests are able to take a glass lift that arrives 76.3m-high off the ground. There is a viewing platform inside from the pre-existing spire, that astounds with breathtaking views of Hamburg.
