Frankfurt is a treasure chest filled with fascinating historical buildings, monuments and artwork. While sadly many of the most prized buildings, particularly those in the inner city were brought to rubble in the aftermath of the second world war, some of the most significant buildings to German history have been meticulously restored. In particular the grand town hall the Cathedral St Bartholomeus which have strong historical significance as in this cathedral the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were knighted in the 17th and 18th centuries. This fortified tower was constructed in a fantastically characterful Gothic style and certainly an eye opener.
